From Canada with Garbage (2)

On April 10, 2015, I wrote about garbage from Canada shipped and dumped onto the Philippines. At the time, the Government of Canada said it was a private business matter and refused to take the garbage back. I can't believe that this problem has resurfaced in the news and still has not been solved after all these years. __________________________________________________ The Philippine Asian News Today said," In 2013 and 2014, a Canadian company shipped about 103 containers wrongly labelled as plastics for recycling to a port near Manila". Rodrigo Duterte, the president of Philippines threatened to declare war against Canada,"Eat it if you want to … Your garbage is coming home". _________________________________________________ Canadians are environmentally concerned people, but is it fair that you keep your own home clean by dumping your garbage onto somebody else's home? Cross-border garbage dumping, legal or not, may be a profitable business, but is it moral and ethical? __________________________________________________ I've learned that the company which shipped the garbage to the Philippines no long exists, and the Government of Canada has agreed to take back the garbage. Beware, it is coming back to Vancouver! __________________________________________________ Fast Edi Thoughts and Comments
